New York 2012
The Educational Excellence Inspiration for Executive Board by DKG Estonia State president Margarita Hanschmidt on July 22, 2012 in New York.
Madam President, Regional Directors, sisters on the Administrative board, State Organization Presidents. Good morning!
One year has passed full of joy when something was completed well but we also had concerns when we felt we lacked sufficient time and energy. But to do anything that you want to do - this is
the strength of the human will and to trust yourself to test your limits - this is the courage to succeed.
A year ago I understood that the time had come in DKG Estonia State organisation when challenging educational activities had to be called for to stay attractive to present and new members. All the projects we started were embraced by our common vision – commitment to educational exellence. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. I wished that exellence would become that everyday habit for my sisters.
We do not know where our dreams will take us, but we can probably see quite clearly where we will go without them. I dreamed. And we compiled our Bylaws and Strategic Action Plan so that every member could have a meaningful responsibility in order to contribute to our 4 educational projects. We are immensely grateful to DKG Educational Foundation for its very kind monetary support for our projects.
We, presidents, are role models. Our sisters hope that we will leave footsteps, not only in their hearts, but also in the history of the Society. We do cope! Here is a recipe:
1 teaspoonful of commitment,
2 spoonfuls of time,
3 cups of sisters’supportive ideas and a huge bucket of enthusiasm.
In July 2011 we received a certificate at our leadership training. On the 2nd page there was Donna Partow’s poem I will do more. If you do not mind I will paraphrase:
I did more than just believe – I practised
I did more than just care – I helped
I did more than just forgive – I loved
I did more than just teach – I served
I did more than just live – I grew.
I would be very happy if you, dear presidents, did the same.
Have a terrific week at the NY Convention!
