European Regional Breakfast
Scrambled eggs and European DKG women power!
Five round tables full of energetic DKG women enjoyed a delicious breakfast together early Friday morning. More than forty ladies from Estonia, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Iceland, The Netherlands, Norway and Sweden shared an enjoyable morning together. The breakfast program included: songs from the Netherlands, Emergency Fund collection, and a tribute to Second Vice-President Sigrún Klara Hannesdóttir. Barbara Brazington (East Washington Genealogical Society) gave an excellent speech about the tremendous influence of European settlers in Washington. Members learned that in 1910 the Scandinavians were the largest ethnic group in Washington – more than 2-% of the population at the time.
Outgoing European Regional Director Birgit Svensson advised incoming director, Great Britain’s Kate York, “…bring good shoes and a big suitcase with you!” When asking Kate York what was the best thing that happened to her this morning was, she said, “It is to see the warmth and encouragement of all DKG members.
