The European Regional Conference was held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands 7–10 August 2013.
Amsterdam is the largest city and the capital of the Netherlands. Amsterdam's name is derived from Amstelredamme, indicative of the city's origin: a dam in the river Amstel. Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age, a result of its innovative developments in trade. The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam (in Dutch: 'Grachtengordel'), located in the heart of Amsterdam, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2010. (Read more on Wikipedia)
The Conference venue was The ROCvA; The Regional Community College of Amsterdam. All the rooms in this unique building were well equipped with the necessary facilities (AV, Wi-Fi etc.) for the regional conference. The canteen served great meals.
The Conference hotel was the Holiday Inn Express, located only 300m from the Conference Centre. This hotel offers well-furnished rooms with great bedding, a walk-in shower and modern equipment like LCD TVs with satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, free coffee/tea facilities and free continental breakfast at a special modest DKG rate.
They offered a special DKG rate from Sunday, August 4th, until Sunday, August 11th, 2013: € 109,- per room per night (single & double), including VAT, continental breakfast and free wireless internet (excluding 5.5% city tax).
Their E-mail address is mailto:email@example.com and you can also register online at their website. Their phone number is: +31(0)208201520 or 1-877-834-3613.
The Schedule was exciting with lots of interesting speeches and presentations; general sessions and workshops.
There were lots of interesting tours offered both on Pre-Conference days as well as while the conference took place. A Post Conference trip was also offered when the conference was over. The European Forum Pre-Conference Seminar took place on Tuesday 6th August 2013, from 9:00 – 16:00. The discussion topic was: Education for everyone. Read more about it here.
Both the Conference Centre and the Conference Hotel are ideally located next to Sloterdijk Station, one of the main train stations of Amsterdam. The Conference Centre, ROCvA, is approximately five minutes’ walk – through a nice little park. The convenient Holiday Inn Express is opposite the station.
- by plane: from Schiphol Airport the train takes you in eight minutes to Sloterdijk Station;
- by train/metro or bus: Sloterdijk Station has stops for them as well;
- by car: the Conference Centre is easily reached from the West Ring. The building has its own parking lot.
